Road Trip

I thought I would take a little break from packing! I just returned from a really short road trip to San Luis Obispo to visit my sister and brother-in-law. It was a lot of fun! We ventured down to the Farmer's Market on Higuera Street on Thursday night which was entertaining. Before we walked home, I was introduced to the best coffee place ever...even better than Coffee Bean...Peet's. This became a regular stop each day while I was there. Unfortunately, there is not one closer to me in LA, but I have already mapped out a few in San Diego.

On Friday, I visited my sister's 2nd grade classroom. Let me just say...teaching is not for me; I am not sure if I would have the patience for that. But the kids were very cute and had several questions for me including one kid asking me how I have money to go to Disneyland. They were expecting my arrival all day since Danielle had told them I was coming. So when I went with Danielle to pick up the kids from lunch, they were very excited. You would have thought I was the President of the United States or something. All the way back to the classroom I had 17 pairs of eyes just staring at me taking it all in. I think one of the first comments from the students was that Danielle and I didn't look alike and that we had different colored skin and hair. I was very exhausted after just two hours in her classroom.

On Saturday, Danielle and I went up to Cambria and did a little shopping. There was a great knitting store there so I bought myself a knitting book on felting; I am planning on starting some new knitting projects. The first one I plan to start is a knit felted tote bag; it's time I move on from scarves and blankets to something a little more interesting. We had afternoon Royal tea at The Tea Cozy which is always a lot of fun.

Then we headed back to downtown SLO for a little shopping downtown before I headed back to LA. We were walking by the Mission and found a quaint little knitting shop tucked away in the row of stores. I found the yarn I liked to start my knit bag. Danielle signed up for beginning knitting classes. The store was very cute and included a little sitting room and a patio off the back so knitters could come and knit.

Peets! How I love thee! We frequented the one off of the 5 near UCSD when my sister lived there.

So bring your knitting book and stuff on Thursday (did we decide on Thursday??) when you come for dinner. We'll stitch and bitch. =)

We have a Peet's here too, but I have to say I'm really bummed we still have no Coffee Bean. I miss the tea lattes like crazy. So, if we come to visit, we might still have to visit the old favorite.

When you finish your felting project, post a picture. I know nothing of felting so I'm curious how it will turn out. Do you have to make things twice the size so they shrink right when you "felt" it? Hmmm...
Wish I could be there to knit with you two. I need to get back into it.
