On a side note, the "super-users" get to wear this very "stylish", bright red scrub top with black pants! The eMD stands for Electronic Medical Documentation.

Finally Went Live with CPOE
For those of you that don't know what CPOE is, it stands for Computerized Physician Order Entry. We have long awaited this at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital and this is the weekend it finally went live. A few of us "super-users", reported at 0300 this morning to begin the chart "cut-over" process where we entered any current and active orders previously written in the paper world into the computer. In the NICU we currently had 18 patients which we needed to do this process for; and we finally finished the last patient around 1100. It was looking pretty dismal at 0700 when we had only completed 4 charts; I was beginning to wonder where the term "super-user" had come from since it all seemed so foreign to me (how in the world was I going to teach this to anyone else). Nothing in the beginning seemed to be in the right place, or it said one thing on paper and did not quite match the language in the computer world. Needless to say it was a frustrating process, but over time we will work out all the kinks. I am still trying to figure out why they decided to do this cut-over process in the middle of the weekend in the middle of the night....but I am so glad that this part of the journey into computer charting is now behind us. Now it is off to bed for me so I can get a nap before venturing into work again tonight. I will be so glad when I don't have to work all these crazy hours in a month or so.

In my experience, "superuser" generally has to do with access privileges. Superusers generally have more access/authority than regular users but less than admin users. I tell you what, though: I'm glad I'm not in your shoes, switching from paper to computer. :)
