Settling In

As you now know, we moved to San Diego last Thursday. We are so glad that we hired movers since it literally took all day! They arrived at our house in La Mirada at 8am and didn't finish in San Diego until 8pm. I think the three flights of stairs in San Diego slowed them down a bit. We have just been taking our time unpacking and moving in. The kitchen is quite a bit smaller than our kitchen in La Mirada which has posed a problem with fitting all of our kitchen stuff into the smaller kitchen. Initially, all the boxes labeled kitchen were placed in the small kitchen and you couldn't even walk into the kitchen to get to the sink or refrigerator. I have yet to cook in the new kitchen either; we have enjoyed eating out around town.

We went to the zoo today. I put sunblock on my face, but my shoulders are pretty sun burned. The temperature was very nice; the sun was shining with a nice breeze. Before going to the zoo, we ventured to Hillcrest to have lunch in a really neat bakery next to Peet's Coffee. There were a lot of little baby animals. We saw the baby panda, baby giraffe, baby red river hogs, baby gorilla, and baby orangutans.

Ryan fit right in among the giraffes!

I completed my New Hire Physical at the hospital and found out that New Hire Orientation for Thursday was canceled. They were able to squeeze me into orientation next Monday, so I have an extra day off this week. I found it very interesting while I was sitting in the waiting room for my physical that the only other lady sitting across from me pulled out her nail clippers and began clipping her nails and dumping the nail clippings onto the floor. The only other thing more annoying than loud crunching is the sound of nail clippers. Then she pulled out her nail file which was attached to her key chain with several jingle bells and began filing away while the bells were jingling. It was quite a site and quite distracting as I was trying to fill out my paperwork.

My urine drug screening was another memorable experience. I don't remember ever having to do such a thing for Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital. I was asked to wash my hands prior to going into the bathroom after locking up my purse and personal belongings. The lady followed me into the bathroom to give me explicit directions. The only thing in the bathroom was a toilet. I was instructed to pee into a cup above the thermometer so she could measure the temperature of my urine. I was not to flush the toilet and when I was done I was to knock on the door so she could come transfer the urine into a specially labeled tube. All this time I was asked to verify that the containers were not tampered with and sealed. I had to sign a form saying I verified and checked the bar code numbers that now sealed my urine tube.

It has been very nice to get some much needed rest this week and take our time moving in! We have enjoyed sleeping in every day and staying up late. I think we will go see a movie tomorrow afternoon. We have also gotten to see Zack, Julie and the baby which has been a lot of fun. I think they have roped us in to babysitting this weekend already...but really we don't mind. We love spending time with our niece. She just loves Ryan. It is fun to watch her interact with Ryan. Now that she is imitating everything, she tries to copy all of Ryan's faces. It really is funny to watch.

Oh yah! Ryan has been offered the Chaplain Internship at Rady's Children's Hospital which will start in the end of July. He will now look for a part time job since the internship is part time.
